Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert Grand and Bösendorfer Imperial combine in new AvantGrand NU1X

Yamaha have revealed the all-new AvantGrand NU1X, the successor to the award-winning and groundbreaking NU1.

Without question, Yamaha AvantGrand instruments are the closest non-acoustic relative to the traditional piano family and elevate the acoustic playing experience to new heights of realism.

The NU1X’s heritage can be traced back to Yamaha’s U1 professional upright piano, which is the world’s most popular acoustic piano. The new instrument offers a range of improvements on its NU1 predecessor, most significantly the exceptional sounds of Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano are now joined by the sound of the mighty Bösendorfer Imperial piano. There is a range of other sounds available including Yamaha’s C7X grand piano and the SU7 professional upright.

This is all possible thanks to Yamaha’s unique VRM (Virtual Resonance Modelling) system, which replicates sounds with exceptional accuracy and realism. The sounds of the CFX and Bösendorfer have been painstakingly remastered to ensure that they are also optimised for playing through headphones. Amazingly, VRM also replicates the acoustic characteristics of the hammers and strings vibrating, producing uncanny realism.

The internal sound system of the NU1X has been enhanced to ensure these iconic sounds are faithfully reproduced. The cabinet of the NU1X forms an acoustic chamber that allows the output of the professional-quality speakers to ‘breathe’ naturally, and a range of ‘escape’ ports to the rear of the instrument further augment the natural acoustic experience.

The NU1X also features a real acoustic piano action, providing the player with the most accurate dynamics and playing experience available from a non-acoustic instrument. All this with the practical and maintenance-free benefits of a hybrid digital instrument in a compact and affordable package.

Unashamedly aimed at discerning players and institutions, the NU1X should prove equally popular with music education professionals, recording studios and live performers. Its predecessor, the NU1, is to be found in the hands of some of the world’s most critically acclaimed classical, jazz and popular music exponents.

The NU1X also offers a wireless Bluetooth input, allowing the streaming of content from smart devices; perfect for practice or performance. Plus, MIDI connectivity ensures the instrument is at home online and as part of wider creative audio systems.
