Sir András Schiff set to star with Beethoven

There's plenty of action to tune in to at the BBC Proms this weekend.

Friday night sees the Chineke! Orchestra take to the Royal Albert Hall stage for a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The ensemble is Europe’s first majority Black and ethnically diverse orchestra. They will be joined by the Chineke! Chorus, soprano Nicole Cabell, mezzo soprano Raehann Bryce-Davis, tenor Zwakele Tshabalala and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green, and will be conducted by Kevin John Edusei.

The performance comes in the middle of the Orchestra's European tour, which takes in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the Lucerne Festival, Brussels, Grenoble, and London's Queen Elizabeth Hall among others.

Saturday night's prime-time slot features the Berlin Philharmoniker and conductor Kirill Petrenko for a performance of Mahler’s ‘song of the night’ – his Seventh Symphony.

At 11.30am on Sunday morning, you can catch Sir András Schiff at the Royal Albert Hall where he will play Beethoven's final three piano sonatas; No 30 in E major Op 109, No 32 in C minor Op 111, and No 31 in A flat major Op 110. Schiff appeared on the cover of Pianist 76, which you can download here.

The Berlin Philharmoniker return again on Sunday evening, where they will be joined by conductor Daniel Harding for Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony - the orchestra's final concert at this year's Proms.
