Tbilisi International Piano Competition founder dies aged 75

Professor Manana Doijashvili passed away on 17 January

The founder of one of the world's most popular piano competitions, the Georgia-based Tbilisi International Piano Competition, has died.

Professor Manana Doijashvili established the The Georgian Music Competitions Fund which has been used to fund and run the competition quadrennially since 1995. 

Doijashvili trained at the  Tbilisi State Conservatory as a pianist. During her career, she won prizes at the 1970 Enescu competition, the 1974 Smetana competition, and ranked 6th at the inaugural edition of the Sydney Competition - the latter of which she also served on the jury.

Her cause of death is unknown at this time.
