The 2023 edition of the Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition is well underway!
24 pianists were initially chosen to perform 20-minute recitals, including one virtuosic etude and one Bach Prelude and Fugue at SMU in Texas for the preliminary rounds.
The 24 pianists were then cut down to 12 for the Quarter Final round.
12 eventually became three. The Grand Final, which takes place on Saturday 17 June, will be contested between Yifan Wu (14, China), Seokyoung Hong (15, South Korea) and Jan Schulmeister (16, Czechia). The first-prize winner will receive a cash award of $15,000; second prize is $10,000; and third prize is $5,000. All three top prizes will also include $2,500 scholarships.
