The Surrey-based school will join an elite group of 25 other schools in England that use exclusively Steinway pianos
Eight new pianos from Steinway and Sons, including two Steinway grand pianos, will be delivered in summer 2020. The pianos will be specially chosen to meet the needs of musicians at the school.
Piano lessons will take place on these world-class instruments, and they will also be used for recitals and performances by pupils and visiting musicians.
Headmaster, Mark Dixon, said “I am delighted that this school, which is a comprehensive state boarding school, can offer pupils unrivalled opportunities with these new instruments. We already have a very strong Music Department with some amazing musicians, and the Steinway pianos will take music at this school to another level.
“This January we launched Steinway Music Scholarships which will attract talented musicians who want to develop their musical skills on Steinway pianos.”
The Royal Alexandra and Albert School is blazing a trail for ordinary state schools to offer the quality of music provision that has previously only been available at a small group of elite schools.
