Pianist Andrey Gugnin announced as winner of Classic Piano International Competition

Gugnin triumphed over 70 other pianists in Dubai to be crowned winner

Andrey Gugnin has been crowned winner of this year's Classic Piano International Competition after a gruelling final.

The Russian-born pianist won over the judges with his emphatic performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 3 at Dubai's Zabeel Theatre late last week.

As well as winning €150,000 in prize money, Gugnin also won the Special Prize awarded by Mro. Marios Papadopoulos, which includes an invitation to perform as soloist with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Papadopoulos himself.

He was also presented with another Special Prize awarded by Mro. Sergey Smbatyan, which includes an invitation to perform as soloist with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra in Yerevan, Armenia.

Second Place was awarded to Sunah Kim of South Korea, while Third Place went to Anastasiia Kliuchereva of Russia. The full list of prizewinners can be found below:
