The Argentinian legend will be replaced by her long-time friend Sergio Tiempo

Just days after taking to the stage in Berlin with Daniel Barenboim in what was a memorable performance, Martha Argerich has had to cancel her upcoming performances in Lyon at the Salle Molière.

The venue released a statement announcing the change:

[Translated from French] "In the aftermath of three concerts given at the Berlin Philharmonic with Daniel Barenboim, despite a precarious state of health due to a heart problem, Martha Argerich, suffering, is no longer able to ensure her next commitments and cancels recitals and tours until further notice.

"She is replaced by her disciple and long-time friend, the pianist Sergio Tiempo, also a pupil of Murray Perahia and Nelson Freire, whom we are happy to welcome to Piano in Lyon and whom we thank very warmly for his participation at short notice in these recitals."

Tiempo, a fellow Argentinian, will play a selection of Debussy, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich and Schubert in Lyon. He has just released a piano duet album of French music, titled 'La Belle Époque' with Karin Lechner.
