Issue 104 available to pre-order NOW
We’re excited to announce that the cover star for Pianist magazine issue 104 is legendary Japanese pianist Mitsuko Uchida! Inside the new issue, we talk with the 2x Grammy Award winner about Schubert, Mozart, tea, and other lifelong obsessions.
Her extensive career as both a classical pianist and a conductor has seen her win first prize at the 1969 Beethoven Competition in Vienna, second prize at the 1970 International Piano Competition, and Grammy Awards in 2011 and 2017, amongst other honours.
Mitsuko was honourably promoted to Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2009 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
She has recently been in the midst of a two-year Schubert Sonata series tour featuring 12 of Schubert’s major works, which she has been touring throughout Europe and North America. Main venues have included the Royal Festival Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Musikverein. In the coming months, she will also appear with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Cleveland Orchestra.
