A hearty congratulations to the semi finalists: Peter Bispham, Deirbhile Brennan, David Dean, Martin Evans, Robert Finley, Yvonne Fung, Gil Jetley, Victor Jimenez, Alain Le Pichon, Nuno Maulide, Peter Morgan, Thomas Maurice, Nigel Rogers, Ian Roy, Anna Maria Stachula, Thomas Yu and Caroline Wright.

They will all perform at the semi finals round on 21 August at Whitely Hall at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.The Finals take place the next day at the Royal Northern College of Music concert hall.

The Competition has attracted adult amateur pianists from around the world with semi finalists selected from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada and mainland Europe.

The semi finalists have a diverse range of day jobs that include a solicitor, chemist, periodontist, author, human genetics scientist, banker, industrial engineer, software consultant, and a parcel sorter at the Royal Mail. They are of varying ages – the rules only stipulated that entrants had to be over 30 years of age.

In the preliminary round, a jury comprising Erica Worth (Pianist Editor), Murray McLachlan (Head of Keyboard, Chetham’s) and Jesper Buhl (Director, Danacord Records) listened to competitors’ recordings of repertoire ranging from a Bach Prelude, to Ravel’s Gaspard, to Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

The Winner will be featured inside Pianist, have their winning performance recorded on Pianist’s CD, give a recital at Yamaha Artist Services Recital Room in London and play a concerto movement with the Manchester Camerata Chamber Orchestra in 2013. An amazing prize that will allow the winner a performance opportunity of their lifetime.
