Kissin has always been known as a performer, but now he is keen for people to hear his compositions

World-renowned pianist Evgeny Kissin and German music publishers G. Henle have officially partnered up, with the latter agreeing to become the exclusive publishers of Kissin's work.

The publishers will initially present three of his compositions: Four Piano Pieces op. 1, a Cello Sonata op. 2, and a String Quartet op. 3.

Kissin, who is a three-time Grammy Award winner, has been composing a lot more of his own work recently - something he hasn't done much of since before he shot to fame on the world stage as a pianist. Talking to G. Henle in a recent interview, he stated that, "a few years ago, I began to feel an urge to compose again."

The move to publish Kissin's work is out-of-the-ordinary for G. Henle, who are known for strictly publishing established classics and Urtext editions from composers of the past. Of the new partnership, Kissin comments, "You know, there is the first time for everything, maybe also for G. Henle Verlag. I can tell you a story: When I only began my music studies, I asked my piano teacher about a certain composer, whether he was dead or alive, and then I asked: why is it, that everybody who wrote good music is dead? Of course, I am not overestimating the value of my compositions at all. So I am very happy having found G. Henle as my publisher."
