‘I now have the incentive to learn again’, says winner Jayne Dawson, pictured here with her husband and prize!
In the 2016 December issue, we ran our ‘Win a Clavinova’ Competition, with thanks to Yamaha for supplying us with a wonderful Clavinova CLP-535R model.
We had exactly 1,868 entries!
When Jayne Dobson’s name was pulled out from the hat, and editor Erica Worth called her to break the good news to her, she was pretty flabbergasted. ‘To say I am delighted I have won a piano is an understatement’, she told Erica.
‘I did play the piano when I was younger, for several years, and it is a regret of mine that I didn’t keep it up', says Jayne, who comes from Lincolnshire. 'I have often said to Dave (my husband) that I wished I could still play the piano and it would be lovely to have one. Dave is equally as excited as me as he has often said he wished he could play a musical instrument. We have already been looking around our home to see where it is going to go!’
Dave and Jayne both took early retirement in 2014, and, although Jayne says there are some aspects of work they miss, on the whole it has been great.
‘We thoroughly enjoy going on lots of holidays, both in this country and abroad, and are planning to go to Iceland in a few weeks, where hopefully we shall see the Northern Lights. We both worked for a family firm, Dave as a Manager and I undertook the administration, health and safety, insurance. To own a piano again will be fantastic; I shall probably have to have some refresher lessons, and Dave is certainly going to learn, and when I told my daughter I had won a piano, her answer was that her husband had recently been saying he wanted to learn to play the piano too! A family affair. Now the acid test is to get some lessons organised and hopefully get playing again.’
(Some happy shots below, including the installing of the instrument....)
Said Leanne Barrell, Yamaha UK’s Product Manager, Classic Division, ‘Sometimes we forget how a new piano can make people’s dreams come true.’
How true that is! In the meantime, we wish Jayne all the best with her new piano – and we look forward to hearing how the lessons are going!
Don’t forget – inside every issue of Pianist, there’s a great prize to be won! Right now you can win our Editor’s Choice CD of Jean-Efflam Bavouzet playing Mozart Piano Concertos. Find out how to enter here or by picking up a copy of issue 94.
