The winning pieces will be included in ‘Variations for Judith’, a musical gift to Judith Serota, former Spitalfields Music Executive Director that will be performed at the festival.
‘Variations for Judith’ already boasts contributions from Richard Rodney Bennett, Michael Berkeley, Diana Burrell, Jonathan Dove, Peter Maxwell Davies, Thea Musgrave, Tarik O Regan, Anthony Payne and Judith Weir.
Competition winners will receive a lesson from one of the composers and hear Melvyn Tan perform their variation during his recital at the festival on Sunday 8 July. Closing date for entries is 11 May.
