International Piano Series
The Stoller Hall, Manchester, England
17-28 August 2018
Artistic Director: Murray McLachlan
This August, Chetham’s International Piano Series brings together a glittering assortment of pianists performing solo recitals, orchestral concertos and collaborative gala concerts at The Stoller Hall, Manchester’s immaculately designed and acoustically outstanding concert venue based in Chetham’s School of Music.
Performers include stars of the concert stage Leon McCawley, Artur Pizarro and Ronald Brautigam, who plays Beethoven’s three last piano sonatas on Sunday 26 August. There will also be recitals given by outstanding young artists Eylam Keshet and Alim Beisembayev, winner of the 2017 International Concerto Competition for Young Pianists, plus four concerts dedicated to the music of composers in residence Mark Tanner and Emma-Ruth Richards.
Murray McLachlan, Summer School & Festival Director, says, ‘We are thrilled to present 29 incredible concerts over 12 days at The Stoller Hall as part of the eighteenth Chetham’s Piano Summer School. In addition to performances by internationally-celebrated soloists, we warmly welcome orchestras from the North West of England under the baton of Stephen Threlfall.'
At the heart of the series, Stephen Threlfall directs Stockport Symphony Orchestra and Chester Philharmonic Orchestra alongside superb soloists in eight piano concertos played over four concerts. These include performances of concertos by Robert Schumann, Grieg and Rachmaninov, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and both of Tchaikovsky’s magnificent contributions to the genre.
The Series is a part of Chetham’s International Summer School and Festival for Pianists, which sees over 500 piano students from around the world visiting Manchester to enjoy world-class tuition with an international faculty of teachers, significant performance opportunities and access to Chetham’s state-of-the-art practice facilities.
