Brief Encounter: London Philharmonic Orchestra

Experience David Lean’s classic account of a muted affair, accompanied by live music from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with this special screening of Brief Encounter, with the soundtrack performed by Southbank Centre’s resident orchestra.

Lean’s 1945 film traces the repressed infidelity of a married doctor and suburban housewife who meet on a train platform. It features Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2 at various points – indeed, the film was largely responsible for making this passionate work famous in the UK.
