15-year-old Seokyoung Hong wins Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition

Seokyoung Hong of South Korea has been announced as the Bernice Gressman Meyerson First Prize winner of the 2023 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition, walking home with a cash award of $15,000.

The South Korean performed Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini Op 43 in the Final Round on 17 June in Dallas, Texas.

The Shirley Cox McIntyre Second Prize and cash award of $10,000 was awarded to Yifan Wu (14, China), while The Horchow Family Third Prize and a cash award of $5,000 was awarded to Jan Schulmeister (16, Czechia). All three finalists will also go home with an additional $2,500 scholarship each that must be spent toward furthering their musical advancement.

First Prize winner Seokyoung Hong also won the Audience Award, granting him a further $500.
