There are still plenty of those old imposing grandiose pianos around; built in an age when Imperial European dynasties thrived on displaying their enormous wealth and opulence. This large German instrument in modern black polyester gloss is however not one of them.
Piano manufacturers today produce smaller instruments that parallel the tonal volumes generated by those old pianos, and generally there is no need nowadays to buy a large piano in order to prove a point.
Rather, August Förster offer this unique 134cm piano for those musicians who really want an upright piano with all the properties of a concert grand piano and to be sure one can here generate the loveliest pianissimo through to the grandest most vibrant fortissimo – and everything between. The keyboard is modelled on the same lines as a grand piano, and the Renner action has higher ratios than on the smaller upright pianos. This enables fast precision playing and quick note repetition.
Playing an upright piano normally means that one has the music score lower and closer than when seated at a grand piano. Not here. The music desk is ingeniously designed and can be adjusted both in angle and distance from the player; it is also much higher than one would normally expect on an upright piano.
