This gem, written by a teenage Rachmaninov, is a must-learn

Sergei Rachmaninov, the great Russian composer, wrote a ginormous number of works during his lifetime. Included in these works was Prelude Op 3 No 2. This piece developed into what is now one of his most famous pieces.

Incredibly, Rachmaninov was just 19 years old when he wrote this piece. He wrote the prelude, along with a few other pieces, as a graduation work from the Moscow Conservatoire in 1892. He dedicated the piece to his teacher, Anton Arensky. He received no payment for it beyond a small fee upon publication.
