Anyone who knows their pianos knows that Markson Pianos is a trusted name in the piano world. Based in the heart of London, with a legacy stretching over four generations, Markson has long been synonymous with quality, expertise and a genuine love for music.
Founded in 1910, by piano tuner and repairer Louis Markson, Markson Pianos started out by restoring pianos for departments stores and for private homes and institutions. It was in 1960 that the showroom opened on Albany Street (where it remains to this day), selling new and pre-owned pianos as well as the introduction of the hire scheme.
Having joined the company back in 1976, Managing Director Simon Markson heads the team of seven dedicated staff. With Simon’s son Noah Markson joining the business in January 2016, the Fourth Generation legacy is in good hands. (Both Simon and Noah are pictured above.)

What makes Markson Pianos a choice destination?
All types of pianists will enter the pristine showroom – whether they be professional concert pianists, music educators or families looking for their first piano. So what makes them to venture to Markson Pianos’ showroom on Albany Street?
Expert knowledge is guaranteed
Firstly, Markson Pianos is staffed by piano specialists. Every member of its team understands the nuance, mechanics and artistry behind each instrument. Whether you’re after a concert grand or a digital model for your flat, they’ll match you with the right piano – not just the most expensive one.
A wide selection of instruments
The vast showroom houses an array of pianos for all types of piano players:
New acoustic pianos by the leading manufacturers
From such well-known makers as Bösendorfer, Yamaha and Kawai to the classy and possibly less familiar Grotrian-Steinweg and Steingraeber. Right now, on the showroom floor, you’ll find everything from a limited-edition Bösendorfer grand (with a limited-edition price to boot!) to a more reasonable Petrof upright that won’t break the bank. And if you’re a Yamaha lover, you’re in luck, because there are dozens of pianos – upright or grand – to choose from.
Pre-owned and refurbished pianos
With repairs that have all been carried out in-house, a second-hand piano might be a good option for some. And there are some beautiful instruments to try: There’s a Steinway & Sons rare Louis XIV Model C (as well as other Steinway grands), a circa 1930s Swiss Bechstein grand in an exquisite Birdseye maple satin finish, and some totally affordable Knight and Yamaha upright models – perfect for the beginner in the family.
Digital and hybrid models
For modern living without compromising on sound quality, Markson offers a range of digital pianos from the two makers renowned for their innovation, Yamaha and Kawai. Plus, if you’re still a keen acoustic-piano lover, but want some of the technical innovations of the digital (such as headphones so that you can play silently), Markson Pianos has this covered, with such models as the Yamaha TransAcoustic and Kawai’s ATX4 Anytime.
Whatever instrument you decide on, Markson Pianos offers a five-year guarantee on both new and pre-owned pianos, which gives customers great peace of mind. The in-house team of experts will also continue to maintain the instrument with regular tunings.
And there's more...
If you’re not quite ready for the purchase and need a bit more time, Markson offers a piano rental service. Ideal for students, event organizers, or those still deciding on the perfect model, the rental scheme is flexible and affordable. And, don't forget, it can even lead to eventual ownership with Markson's Option to Purchase Scheme. Markson offers other services such as part-exchange for your piano or selling an existing piano. Also look out for the events that Markson holds from time to time.
Our verdict
The impressive showroom, which has expanded over the years, is a stone’s throw away from Regents Park and conveniently located just outside of London’s congestion zone, with free parking that can be arranged in advance. Which means it’s easy to access. And with testimonials from the likes of Jools Holland, James Blunt and Konya Kanneh-Mason, you should visit Markson Pianos as soon as possible!
