Pianist Maria Marchant Releases Debut Album

Young British pianist Maria Marchant releases her debut album, Echoes of Land & Sea, on SOMM Recordings on 1 September 2017. The album of English piano music features three world premiere recordings including Goodwood by the Sea, a work composed by the composer and baritone Roderick Williams for Maria Marchant and premiered live at Shipley Arts Festival in 2016.

Maria Marchant is a passionate supporter of British music, making her acclaimed Wigmore Hall and Southbank debuts in 2010 with British programmes. She regularly performs the works of Bliss, Britten and Ireland with many of her concerts sponsored by the John Ireland Trust. Her debut release also includes expressive works by Britten, Leighton, Holst and Ronald Stevenson.

Echoes of Land & Sea launches with a special recital at All Souls Church in London on Monday 18 September. Maria will play music from the album including Goodwood by the Sea, and composer Roderick Williams will introduce his new piano arrangement of John Ireland’s Sea Fever.

Following Marchant’s first performance of Goodwood by the Sea last year, Williams said, “I am hugely grateful to Maria for her haunting, magical premiere of Goodwood by the Sea - it was a great compliment to me and a sign of her dedicated professionalism. She brought my music alive with great sensitivity and made it glow in a way I had not imagined possible.”

Since being selected as a young artist by the Concordia Foundation, Park Lane Group and Tillett Trust schemes, Maria Marchant has been much in demand as a recitalist and has performed at numerous festivals, including Shipley Arts Festival, where she is pianist-in-residence.
