Steinway launches new Paris showroom in the glamorous Saint-Germain

On 6 May Steinway & Sons opened a new showroom in the heart of the French capital. The event marked only the second such premises for the firm outside its home in Germany, after the inauguration of Steinway Hall in London, in 1875 – almost a century and a half ago!

New concert halls and ensembles are presently springing up in Paris on an almost-monthly basis, giving substance to the claim made by Clement Caseau, CEO of Steinway and Sons France: ‘This city has always been one of the great cultural capitals of the world and it seemed obvious to us to settle here. The active musical scene in Paris fully justifies our choice to settle where things are happening.’

The new showroom is located in the glamorous district of St-Germain-des-Prés. Spread over two floors, in many oak-floored, stylish white salons, the 700-square-metre space incorporates a 50-seat auditorium (below), two practice studios and sufficient space to house up to 45 instruments.

The launch was attended by Lang Lang (see picture below), who was suffering from tendonitis (too much Ravel Left-Hand, he claimed): he handed over playing duties to a protégé in the nearby Church of St Thomas Aquinas.

A full programme of events is planned for the auditorium, including concerts, masterclasses and lectures. ‘This room will be our daily work tool,’ remarked Caseau. ‘Today, if we want to develop our brand, we can no longer wait for customers to return to our store. We must give them constant reasons to attend events.’
