Bach’s Inventions and Sinfonias BWV 772-801, also known as the Two- and Three-part Inventions, were written around 1720 when Bach was Kapellmeister in Köthen; they were originally intended as exercises for the composer’s pupils. This piece is typical of the inventions in its dialogue between the hands and in its moto perpetuo strings of semiquavers.
