Whilst the piece is based on these three motifs, they are not straightforwardly related to each other as thematic siblings. Then it’s worth determining for yourself where the phrases lie. Does the first phrase end in bar 4 (with the LH) or bar 5 (with the RH)? Don’t be tempted to regulate everything: asymmetry runs through Brahms as it does through Haydn.
