Konzert Series K132T

The pinnacle of the Schimmel upright piano range, this model shares many features with its grand piano relatives in the Konzert series – from the real ebony and mineral keys to the shape of the soundboard.

‘Biggest is Best’ is often the mantra for upright pianos, and indeed the bass is usually stronger in taller instruments, yet the treble can often become weaker and shorter in length of tone, producing an unbalanced instrument. This is something the piano designers at Schimmel have gone to great lengths to avoid.

One reason for the shorter tone-length in large uprights is that the high frequencies of the treble quickly get damped out of the larger, heavier soundboards in tall pianos. This, however, doesn’t happen in grand pianos where the soundboard is smaller in the treble section. Thus the K132 has a grand piano-shaped soundboard within. The pianos in the Schimmel Konzert Series are the only uprights in the world to have a front and back duplex system (known as triplex) where the two unstruck sections of the treble strings are allowed to vibrate in sympathy in order to maximise the tone length and produce increased harmonic richness.

As the Diapason magazine judges said: ‘This piano is theatrical. Its dynamic range reveals its opulent character and facilitates the production of fortissimo and pianissimo with a natural effortlessness. The multifaceted tone of this instrument can unfold to produce a luxuriant orchestral sound, but can also produce such intimate piano dynamics.’
