Schimmel Classic C120
Made in Germany most of the Schimmel Classic range fits into this price bracket and so it is a tough job to select just one instrument. However, Le Monde de la Musique described the C120 as the heartthrob of their group test and so it seems a good place to start.
The C120 sits in the middle of the Classic range and can be considered a more sophisticated relative of the less expensive C116 in philosophy of sound and construction whereas the larger C126 is more strongly influenced by the design of the more expensive Konzert range of instruments and consequently has a different type of sound and touch.
The C120 represents the evolutionary development of the very popular Schimmel instruments of the 1980s and 1990s. Every element has been developed and refined over the years including structural, acoustic and action design. These changes have resulted in an instrument of more sophistication and with a very beautiful richness of sound. Every note is beautiful on a Schimmel C120 from singing treble to deep powerful rich bass.
Naturally, all of the Classic instruments are made with a thoroughness and attention to detail. Schimmel even make their own keys - each one individually balanced by hand. The Schimmel designed action, made be Renner, enables good repetition and control. The great dynamic diversity of the instrument facilitates the playing of a wide ranging repertoire.
This instrument is a great example of the German piano making tradition at a price that surprises.
