Highlights of the 2020 review on pianobuyer.com include: ‘a rewarding musical experience for the professional musician or teacher while still looking good in any room of the house.’ ‘Right away, the C 121’s tone struck me as being exceptionally well balanced throughout the range – rich and singing, particularly in the “killer” fifth octave, so called because of the technical difficulty in most piano designs of getting the notes of that octave to sing. In fact, the tone had long sustain and excellent clarity, and was very subtle and complex – more refined than that of its nearest competitors from Japan.’

The C121 is a development of the old C120 and so shares its general sound and playing qualities. Most of the developments have been on the technical side enhancing structural strength even more with a reinforced key bed which enables the pianist to transmit more power to the hammers as well as enhanced stability to humidity changes. Other ‘under thehood’ developments include making the instrument easier for the piano tuner by changes to the internal geometry.

Naturally all of the Classic instruments are made in Germany with a thoroughness and attention to detail. Schimmel even make their own keys –each one individually balanced byhand. The Schimmel designed action, made be Renner, enables good repetition and control. The great dynamic diversity of the instrument facilitates the playing of a wide-ranging repertoire.

This instrument is a great example of the German piano making tradition at a price that surprises.
